Covid-19-related deaths rise to 17, infections hit 866 in Vietnam

A 55-year-old man died of Covid-19 on Wednesday, marking the 17th coronavirus fatality in in Vietnam, while three more infections were confirmed on the same day, said Ministry of Health.

The man, a resident of Lien Chieu district in Da Nang, was reported to have died of pneumonia caused by the infection. He also suffered type 1 diabetes, final-stage renal failure and other diseases.

He was admitted to Da Nang hospital for his kidney disease on July 26. He was sent to Hue General Hospital after being confirmed with coronavirus, the ministry said.  

The latest victim is among 17 Covid-19 deaths linked to the Da Nang outbreak. All suffered serious underlying chronic diseases.

On the same day, the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control confirmed three new infections, turning the number of patients in Vietnam to 866.

All of the new patients returned Vietnam on the flight VN331. After landing at Van Don International Airport, Quang Ninh Province, they were sent for medical quarantine in Hai Phong City.

Among 866 Covid-19 infections in Vietnam, 321 imported cases were quarantined upon their arrivals.

Since July 25, the country has confirmed 405 cases linked to Da Nang City.

As many as 399 Covid-19 patients have been cleared of the virus, accounting for 46.1% of the country's patient tally.
