Vietnam weighs social distancing at three Ho Chi Minh City districts

The statement was made by Director of the Press Center Tu Luong, who conveyed the opinion of Chairman of the municipal People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Thanh Phong after Patient No. 1342, a flight attendant of Vietnam Airlines was found to have violated regulations on epidemic prevention.
Patient No. 1347, an English teacher, who contracted the virus from the flight attendant, have travelled to several districts and taught at several schools and English language centers. The patient visited Districts 1, 3, 6, 10, 11, Phu Nhuan, Binh Tan, Tan Binh, and Tan Phu.
Chairman of the City People's Committee asked the districts, especially District 6, Tan Binh, Binh Tan, to proactively propose the plan for social distancing if necessary. The social will not be applied in large areas in the city to maintain economic activities.
Universities shut down
The outbreak has caused several universities, dorms and English language centers in Ho Chi Minh have to shutdown.
Students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology were asked to stay at home, while 23,000 students Ton Duc Thang University had to take leave, related to Patient No. 1342, the Vietnam Airlines flight attendant and English teacher, Patient No. 1347, Tuoi Tre Newspaper repoted.
Ton Duc Thang University, Van Lang University, University of Finance and Marketing and the Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology also allowed more than 10,000 students to stay at home through December 6.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Pedagogical also allowed 14,000 students to stay at home till December 13.
As of noon of December 2, around 100,000 students of Ho Chi Minh City’s universities had to stay at home.
