Vietnam to buy 50-150 million doses of Russian Covid-19 vaccine

Russia said it would introduce the world’s first Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V.

Vietnam has registered to buy 50-150 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine from Russia, Tuoi Tre newspaper cited information from Ministry of Health during Friday morning meeting.

Part of the vaccine will be donated by Russia and Vietnam pay for the rest. In the meantime, the country will still continue developing the its own Covid-19 vaccine, ministry said.

However, the ministry representative did not say when it expected to receive the vaccine and the amount of money the country will pay.

On Wednesday, Russia said it would introduce the world’s first Covid-19 vaccine named  Sputnik V in two weeks.

Vietnam won praises for winning an earlier outbreak through aggressive testing, contact-tracing and quarantining.

Now it is fighting a second wave of the outbreak in several localities that link Da Nang, a popular tourist city in central region, where the new outbreak was reported on July 25.

As of Friday morning, the country has confirmed with 21 deaths related to Covid-19, with the youngest at 33 and the oldest at 87. Patient tally has risen to 911.
