Vietnam reports 45 single-day Covid-19 infections, a record high

Vietnam has confirmed 45 new coronavirus patients on Friday morning, the highest number of infected cases in a single day, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

All of the new patients, aged between 27 and 87, are patients or relatives taking care of patients at three major hospitals in Da Nang city, the country’s largest Covid-19 cluster.

The patients raised total infections of the country’s new outbreak to 93, including 79 found in Da Nang.

Among the patients, 33 are linked to Da Nang Hospital, four to Da Nang Lung Hospital, two linked to Da Nang Oncology Hospital. Four other patients stayed at hotel where patients of Da Nang Hospital are isolated, two others at a medical center in in Cam Le District.

With the 45 newly confirmed patients, the largest number of community transmission cases reported in a single day, Vietnam has 509 Covid-19 patients, including 369 have recovered and 140 active patients.

Since the first case of the new outbreak was confirmed in Da Nang a week ago, the virus has spread to five other cities and provinces including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Dak Lak.
