As many as 74 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines landed in Viet Nam, according to Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long.

As of October 8, the Southeast Asian country has administered 51.4 million doses, including 13.8 million people having been fully vaccinated, the minister said on Saturday morning at a meeting of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

The vaccine coverage is rising fast as the nation inoculates 1.5 million doses each day, Nguyen added.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been basically put under control in localities placed under social distancing order, said the Ministry of Health.

The number of new infections and fatalities has significantly decreased in major COVID-19 hotspots like Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Long An, according to the report.

Minister Nguyen, however, warned that new COVID-19 outbreaks may occur at anytime, anywhere as many people have left pandemic-hit localities over the past days.
