Vietnam Electricity gets Gov’t approval to build $2 bln power plant in Quang Binh

State-run electricity firm Vietnam Electricity has got approval from the Government to invest in VND48.2-trillion ($2.09 billion) Quang Trach 2 Thermal Power Plant, the government of Quang Binh has said.

The Quang Trach 2 Thermal Power Plant, which will be built in Hon La Economic Zone, Quang Binh province, is expected to contribute to the nation’s energy security.

The project with a capacity of 1,200 megawatt will be put into commercial operation of phase 1 in 2028 and commercial operation of phase 2 in 2029.

According to the People's Committee of Quang Binh province, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc assigned specific tasks to the ministries and sectors in implementing the project.

PM Phuc also requested the local government to award issue the investment certificate to EVN in accordance with regulations, while asked Vietnam Electricity to take comprehensive responsibility to study about the project investment.
