With support from British experts, a group of Vietnamese scientists began testing of coronavirus vaccine on mice at a lab in Hanoi.

The test result is expected to come in the next 2-3 weeks, assessing the ability to produce antibodies against the novel coronavirus and vaccine’s safety.

Successful tests on animals will be followed by tests on humans, according to a posting on a news website run by the Ministry of Health.

The vaccine project is jointly conducted by scientists of VABIOTECH under the ministry and the UK’s Bristol University.

The vaccine was developed after scientists successfully generated the novel coronavirus antigen in the lab, said Do Tuan Dat, President of the company.

After testing the vaccine in mice for two weeks, scientists will conduct blood tests on the animal, sending samples to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.

It will take at least 12-18 months to develop the Covid-19 vaccine that can work safely on humans.
