Cambodia returnee among four new COVID-19 cases in Vietnam, tally hits 318

A citizen illegally returned Vietnam from Cambodia has been among four new coronavirus patients, raising total infections in the country to 318, reported the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

The 39-year-old native of Tay Ninh Province near the Cambodian border illegally traveled to Vietnam by coach from Siem Reap on January 10.

He visited his relative’s house in Tan Thanh Commune, Tan Chau District of the province. The patient had close contact with 17 people after returning the country. All of people who have been in close contact with him are being quarantined at local hospital.

The patient 315 was first tested negative for the virus on May 5 but the Ho Chi Minh Pasteur Institute confirmed that he was positive on late Friday.

Vietnam has closed borders with southwestern neighbor Cambodia and suspended entry as well as all cross-border activities since April. The man took a motorbike taxi driven by a Cambodian national to his aunt's home in Tan Chau District.

The new patient returning from Cambodia was confirmed after the country’s Health Ministry reported Saturday there was no new infected case since April 12 and the last patient of the country has fully recovered and been discharged from hospital.

Patient 316 is a 19-year old man from the central city of Da Nang. He landed in Can Tho International Airport on May 14 from the Philippines on flight QH9352 and was immediately sent to a centralized quarantine camp in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap. He is being treated at Sa Dec General Hospital in the locality.

Patient 317 is a 29 year-old man from Dien Khanh District of the central province of Khanh Hoa.

He landed in Van Don International Airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh on May 13 from Russia on flight VN0062 and was immediately taken to a centralized quarantine camp in Thai Binh Province. He is being treated at Thai Binh General Hospital.

Patient 318 is a 41 year-old woman from Thanh Hoa city of Thanh Hoa Province. He was a passenger on flight VN0062 landing in the Van Don Airport on May 13. He is being treated at the Thai Binh General Hospital.
