Pangasius exports totaled $1.8 billion in the first eight months of 2022, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

In August, pangasius export value reached $195 million, up 5% compared to July. Exports to China jumped by over 37% with nearly $61 million. Sales to the US recovered 4% with sales at $33 million in August.

The US Department of Commerce issued the 18th administrative review of anti-dumping duty for the period from August 1, 2020 to July 31, 2021 for Vietnamese pangasius.

Data from VASEP shows that the average export price of frozen pangasius in August was $2.81/kg, the lowest level in the past 6 months. The price to the US is still the highest at $5/kg and is the highest so far this year.

With a total number of firms accounting for 37% of the total value, the top 5 pangasius exporters are Vinh Hoan Corporation, Bien Dong Seafood Co.Ltd, Nam Viet, IDI Corp, and Van Duc Tien Giang Food Export Company.

Pangasius turnover in 2022 may record a record $2.5-2.6 billion, 56% higher than in 2021, Ms. Le Hang predicts. The head of volatility still depends on the two largest countries, China and the US. Demand for fish from the market is expected to increase again in the next few months.
