6G is the next generation of networks following 5G, and it is enticing many nations and large technology corporations throughout the globe to engage in research and development.

The government of Information and Communications has recently formed a team to develop 6G equipment, which includes three telecommunications companies, Viettel, VNPT, and MobiFone, as well as several government organizations.

The study team will concentrate on analyzing the system of legal papers to encourage the development, assessment, and testing of 6G equipment, led by Nguyen Thien Nghia, deputy director of the Authority of Information Technology and Communications Industry.

In order to encourage the implementation of the 6G network, they will also propose laws on the management, evaluation, inspection, and testing of equipment.

After 5G, 6G is the next generation of networks, and it is enticing many nations and big technology corporations throughout the globe to engage in research and development.

Furthermore, the team will research foreign experiences in the development, evaluation, and testing of 6G equipment and provide recommendations for 6G equipment development in Vietnam.

The committee will also track global 6G equipment research and development, including equipment type, supported band, pricing, and standardization.

The team will participate in worldwide and domestic conferences and seminars relating to 6G equipment development, evaluation, inspection, and testing, as well as international collaboration in 6G technology and equipment research and development.

Previously, the Ministry of Information and Communications formed a steering group to support 6G mobile information technology research and development.

This committee is responsible for investigating and recommending strategies, methods, and policies to build a legal environment and support research and development on standards, applications, information security, manufacturing, and commercialization of 6G mobile communication devices and services in Vietnam.

The committee also monitors 6G research and development efforts carried out by international organizations and advanced nations across the globe.

As a result, it presents a roadmap for 6G research, production, and commercialization, as well as solutions to assist Vietnamese firms in producing and commercializing 6G equipment and services.

According to the government, the globe has five 5G equipment producers, and several nations have started exploring 6G. Vietnam is striving to keep up with the rest of the globe in the development of 6G.

When the government creates 6G standards, Vietnam will be ready for 6G development. Many universities and research institutions are also doing 6G research.

According to a Viettel spokesman, the company has begun exploring the development of 6G equipment and collecting 6G patents. VNPT said that it will concentrate on researching a 6G environment.

The 6G standard and commercialization are projected to begin in 2028, with major commercialization possibly occurring in 2030. The primary topics of 6G networks with sophisticated services such as augmented reality, high-precision mobile holograms, and digital copies will be humans and robots.

According to the experts, smart homes will be extensively used if smart gadgets can be linked and operated remotely. Based on 6G network technology, intelligent traffic with control systems, autonomous cars, and flying taxis may be implemented.

Viettel said in its business report for the first six months of 2023 that it has pushed customers from 2G and 3G to 4G, therefore boosting the number of 4G subscribers. It also put 5G services to the test in 55 provinces and cities.

This group, in particular for the 5G project, said that it would continue to adhere to the network's development timeline. Viettel has been testing and analyzing the quality of 5G services. It aims to provide mass-market 5G services in the third quarter of 2023.

Meanwhile, neither VNPT nor MobiFone have mentioned 5G development operations in their business reports for the first six months of the year or in their plans for the final six months of 2023.
