Vietnam allows real estate developers to build 25-square-meter apartments

Real estate developers in Vietnam is allowed to build apartments with the minimum area of 25m2, according to Ministry of Construction's decision that will take effect on July 1.

However, the ratio of apartments with between 25 and 45 square meters should not exceed 25% of the total number of apartments of a commercial housing project.

The apartment with at least 1 room and 1 toilet should have natural light while the area of ​​a bedroom in the apartment should not be less than 9 square meters.

With huge demand for affordable apartments having size under 45 square meters, Ho Chi Minh City Real Estate Association proposed the regulator to approve construction of apartments with the minimum area of 25 square meters.

"Demand for small apartments with affordable price is huge, Tien Phong newspaper cited the association president Le Hoang Chau.

According to a survey result from Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Construction, there are about 476,158 families who do not have houses. They have to share houses with parents or relative.

Besides, there are about 50,000 newly married couples every year and more than 500,000 university and college students.
