Vietnam could resume exporting 800,000 tonnes of rice in April, May
For food security, in April and May, Vietnam has about 300,000 tonnes. Beside, the country will have additional 400 thousand tonnes of rice to face possible situation caused by the pandemic in April and May, ministry said.
Total amount of rice kept in the country in the two months before the Summer-Autumn paddy crop comes is 700,000 tonnes.
Therefore, the amount of rice should be exported in April and May will be about 800,000 tonnes, a decrease of 40% compared to the same period of last year.
However, in the final week of April, the government will consider rice export for May base on actual situation.
Previously, the Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to consult the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and relevant agencies on rice export in the current situation.
The trade ministry maintains earlier proposal to allow rice exports to resume this month at 400,000 tons.
