Statistics from the General Statistics Office (GSO) show that as of November 15, 2018, Vietnam had a trade balance of US$24.44 billion.

The country's trade with the rest of the world was worth $587.68 billion during the time period that was looked at. This is a 9 percent drop from the previous year.

The GSO revealed that the value of exports dropped by 6.4% year-over-year to $306.06 billion, and the value of imports dropped by 11.7% to $281.62 billion.

Ninety-two percent of the Southeast Asian country's total export value came from 33 goods that sold for more than one billion US dollars each. Seven of them, in particular, had exports worth more than $10 billion each.

Products that make hard cash include computers and spare parts (worth nearly $49 billion), phones and spare parts (worth $46 billion), machinery and equipment (worth more than $37 billion), clothing and textiles (worth nearly $28 billion), and shoes (worth more than $17 billion).

The Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Phan Thi Thang, said that the ministry is thinking about making new free trade deals with possible partners to expand the number of markets, goods, and supply lines.

In addition, the ministry will help companies use the promises made in new trade deals to increase exports. It will also work with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to talk to China about letting more Vietnamese fruits and vegetables, like star apple, avocado, green-skinned grapefruit, and lemon, enter their market.
