Amid coronavirus fear, investors sold out aviation shares in Vietnam’s stock market and asset of Vietnamese Billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao fell significantly.

The aviation industry is among sectors getting hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic. In the stock market, shares of air carriers declined continuously for several trading sessions.

In the first three trading days after Lunar New Year Holiday, shares of VietJet Air (HoSE: VJC) fell by over 14%, from the price of VND146,500 ($6.23) per share to VND 125,500 ($5.33) per share as of February 3.

Vietnamese Billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Vice Chairwoman and CEO of VietJet Air holds more than 202 million VJC shares. In addition, Thao also owns nearly 36 million shares of HDBank (HoSE: HDB). In the last trading 3 sessions, HDB stock price has also decreased by more than 7%.

Thus, in just three days, the coronavirus has blown away more than VND4,300 billion ($183 million) assets of the Southeast Asia’s richest woman. As of February 3, Thao remains more than VND26,300 billion ($1.1 billion) on the Vietnam stock exchange.

The coronavirus outbreaks not only affected the Chinese economy but also the economies of the countries with trade relations with China.

Vietnam has recorded nine infected cases and three have been cured. Data updated by the Ministry of Health on February 4 shows that the virus has been infecting to 20,626 and taking lives of 426 people.

In the first 3 trading sessions, the market capitalization of Vietnam stock market has "evaporated" more than $12 billion.
