Applying society-serving ideology to attract talented people

In just 5 years since his first store was opened, his fashion chain has more than 85 stores nationwide. His fashion chain, which handles thousands of online orders every day, has not received investment from any organization.

Growing up from hardship, the 34-year-old businessman appears as a simple and calm CEO of a dynamic growing business in the fashion industry. Dubbing as a "king of livestream sale", Van has ability to attract tens of thousands of views thanks to his graceful and enthusiastic advices to his customers.

With such a rapid growth in both online and store systems, is human resource a big problem for you?

Of course it is. But I think I have a special in gathering talented people. I do not attract them with attractive salary but the working environment that maximizes their ability to be creative and devoted. I myself have an ideal of serving society, and a lot of people came to me for the same ideal.

How do you assess the level of competition of Vietnamese fashion market in the upcoming times? How will GUMAC face the challenge?

The Vietnamese fashion market is very competitive, but it has opportunities. The best way to survive is to have a long-term strategy, keeping the business flexible, while building a company culture with an optimistic spirit.

With the strategy, we can encourage young talents to be creative. Fashion demand of domestic market is huge, but there is not any outstanding brand. Therefore, we are aiming to become a leading fashion house in Vietnam.

GUMAC is making a huge transformation when its products have become more fancy and got appreciated from customers. During the peak of Covid-19 pandemic, the number of customers returning to buy clothes from our stores increased surprisingly.

Despite the challenge, GUMAC opened more stores to serve customers. After five years since the company was founded, GUMAC opened a second representative office in Hanoi to introduce products to customers in the Northern region, realizing the goal of becoming a fashion brand for everyone.

Do you have ambition to build GUMAC to become a "Vietnam’s Zara"?

I feel happy when my business is compared with such a large fashion brand. But the comparison is lame, because GUMAC is small. We have a distinct direction and identity, unlike any other fashion brand in the world.

Why haven’t you accepted any offer from investors?

In the past, I met several investors, but we did not agreed in several points. I know that in order to achieve the goal, GUMAC needs resources from outside. Therefore, I am still looking for the right investor to fulfill my aspiration of bringing GUMAC to a global fashion brand.

I have a desire to bring GUMAC to the world. This aspiration stems from the love for my homeland and the Vietnamese people. I want to do something good for the country, not for my benefit or personal fame. The Vietnamese fashion industry has advantages, but there are no brands having ability to enter the world.

It is not because we are not good enough. Our desire is not big enough. With our internal strength, GUMAC will surely enter the world fashion market two years from now.  

On your personal Facebook page, you shared your concerns about applying spiritual science in business. Could you share more details?

I used to have no concept of spirituality. Just six months ago, I had a special fate and I started to pay much attention to this field. I believe that human insights and what we have discovered are too small compared to the vast universe. I began to have a better understanding the function of natures, which has helped me with a great motivation on my path.

I believe in the law of cause and effect, so I live and work in accordance with it. This is why GUMAC's society-serving ideology was formed. In addition to a fashion brand, GUMAC also wants to bring good human values ​​to the community, bringing true happiness to people.

Besides business and family, do you have any interests to make your life balanced?

In fact, my life and business are balanced already. In addition to my small family, I have a larger family. It’s GUMAC. We have a working environment with love and sharing spirit like any other families.

I am a simple person so my entertainment demands are also simple. Compared to the time I was a poor student, I have not changed much. When I have free time, I often go to the countryside to do the charitable activities.
