Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced that the country's seafood industry has reached a production level equivalent to that of the world's largest economy, the US.

In January 2023, agricultural, forestry, and fishery exports reached $3.73 billion, with a trade surplus of $647 million, exported to 200 countries and territories.

The export target of the industry in 2023 is set at $55 billion. However, with high inflation and market barriers, the industry must restructure and adopt digital transformation to meet market demands. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is confident in reaching the government's assigned goals.

The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers reported a decrease in seafood exports in January 2023, bringing in only $600 million, down 31% from the previous year.

Key products such as shrimp and pangasius saw a significant drop in exports, while other fish, squid, and octopus exports increased.

The opening of China is expected to bring a recovery in demand for the industry, as well as economic growth in Asia and the Middle East. Despite a decrease in exports, the seafood industry remains optimistic for a promising future.
