By the end of September 2022, pangasius exports to the ASEAN market were anticipated to be worth over $152 million, or about 8% of all pangasius exports to foreign nations, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
The value of Vietnam’s pangasius exports to Thailand alone is 3.6%. By the end of the third quarter of 2022, pangasius supplied to this market had surpassed $70 million, an increase of 81% from the same period in 2021. Pangasius exports to Thailand soared by 165% in September.
Singapore came in second in ASEAN for Vietnamese pangasius consumption, absorbing more than $28 million in the first nine months of this year, a boost of 56% over the same time. Exports of pangasius to Singapore, particularly in September, more than tripled.
The philippine market recorded the greatest breakthrough in September, with an increase of 5 times over the same period, by the end of the third quarter, pangasius exports to this market climbed by 92%, reaching over $25 million, accounting for 1.3% of all amount of pangasius exports.
Other ASEAN nations including Cambodia, Indonesia, and Laos tend to import more Vietnamese pangasius than they did during the same period in 2021, with growth rates ranging from 3 to 23 times.
Additionally, both markets Thailand and Singapore also attract more than every 70 Vietnamese enterprises to export pangasius.
Given its current pace of expansion, ASEAN is likely to soon replace the “EU market” in terms of its proportion of pangasius exports.
