The Vietnamese Government has decided to temporarily suspend entry of all foreigners, including those of Vietnamese origin, beginning March 22 due to developments of the coronavirus pandemic, it said in a statement.

The country will allow entries for diplomatic and official purposes, for participation in major diplomatic events, or being experts, business managers, highly skilled workers under support of the Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of  National Defense shall coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, and other relevant agencies.

However, the entrants mentioned shall be subject to mandatory medical declaration and other effective regulations at designated areas at ports of entry as well as isolate themselves at places of residence as currently regulated.

Temporary suspension of entry shall also be applied to all overseas Vietnamese and their spouses and children who have been granted with certificate of visa exemption, also effective since March 22.

The Government also ordered competent agencies to strictly control incoming travellers to Vietnam by road, by sea, and by air.

Total rises to 94

In related development, local health officials have confirmed two more patients, raising total number of infected cases to 94, said the Ministry of Health.

These two new patients had returned Vietnam from overseas.

Patient No. 93, a 20-year-old Vietnamese national, who is permanent resident in Dong Da District, Hanoi. He is a student studying in Hungary and entered Noi Bai airport on March 18. The patient is put under treatment at Dong Anh Tropical Diseases Hospital.

Another patient, the 94th, who 64-year-old Vietnamese citizen in Bac Giang. She visited her daughter in Czech Republic.

She returned home through Noi Bai International Airport on March 18, 2020 on the same flight SU290 with patient No. 93.

Earlier, the ministry announced the 92nd infected case, a student returning from France.

Vietnam has recorded 94 cases of COVID-19, of which 17 cases recovered, one case, the 18th was tested 3 times giving negative result.
