Vietnam suspends granting visas to all foreigners, coronavirus infection hits 66 with 5 more

This is the latest effort by the Government to staunch the COVID-19 pandemic which has spread swiftly across the world and caused serious consequences, while number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country keep increasing.
Foreigners enjoying visa-waiver program, overseas Vietnamese and their spouses and children having been granted with certificate of visa exemption shall only be allowed to enter Vietnam if they can show papers certifying they are not positive for the virus, the Government said in a statement on website.
The measure will also be applied to foreigners who are experts, business managers, highly skilled workers upon arrival to Vietnam.
All the above measures shall NOT be applicable to entrants for diplomatic or official purposes, the statement said.
Infection hits 66
In a related developments, Ministry of Health has confirmed five addtional infected cases, raising total patients found in Vietnam to 66 as of Tuesday evening.
All of the new patients had returned Vietnam from abroad.
Patient No. 62 is a 18-year old Vietnamese national who had returned home from the UK. He lives in Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi city. He returned Vietnam on March 16, 2020.
Patient No. 63 is a 20-year old Vietnamese who had also returned home from the UK on March 15, 2020 on TG564 flight of Vietnam Airlines. She was hospitalized in the Hanoi Center for Disease Control.
The 64th patient, aged 36, who lives in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City, accompanied her boyfriend from Switzerland to Dubai and returned to Vietnam on March 12 on flight No. EK392.
Another 28-year old women has become the 65th patient in Vietnam. She lives in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City. She works for TOTO Vietnam Co., Ltd. at 1A Pham Ngoc Thach, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1.
Another patient is a 21-years old women living at Park View Apartment at 107 Nguyen Duc Canh, Phu My Hung, District 7. On March 14, she traveled from the US Pennsylvania - Philadelphia, US to Toronto - Canada and transited in Taiwan.
She arrived in Vietnam on March 16 on flight BR 395. Upon entry into Vietnam, the patient has no symptoms, ministry said.
