Vietnam imported $2.04 billion of animal feed and raw materials for this item in the first five months of this year, according to data from the General Department of Customs.

The number represents a decline of 2% from the previous year.

Animal feed and raw materials originating from Argentina to Vietnam made up 25.8% of the overall market shares, with India coming in second (18.3%) and the United States of America coming in third (15.2%).

The percentage rise in imports from these three countries as compared to the same time during the previous year was 3.9%, 130%, and 28.3%, respectively.

The MARD suggests that farmers in communities should make use of available domestic raw materials, produce animal feed on their own to minimize costs and discover sources of raw materials for the manufacturing of animal feed in order to lessen their dependency on imported animal feed.

It was requested that the relevant ministries and agencies tighten their control over the import of meat and by-products, provide assistance to importers in their efforts to lower the costs of products, and establish favorable conditions for the development of material zones for the production of animal feed.
