After 30 years after the establishment of South Korea-Vietnam's formal diplomatic relationship, two-way trade turnover has continuously grown and is expected to reach $100 billion in 2022.

The information was heard during the conference held in Da Nang City on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The RoK's Consul General in Da Nang, Ahn Min Sik said the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and South Korea has continuously developed in diverse fields such as economy, trade, investment, culture, and people.

Immediately after establishing diplomatic relations, the trade turnover between the two countries increased from $500 million to a record $80.6 billion in 2021 despite many economic difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is also the basis for the expectation that the trade turnover between the two countries will reach $100 billion this year, although this is the target set for 2023.

According to Assoc Prof. Nguyen Van Lan, Academy of Politics Region III, over the past 30 years, the relationship between Vietnam and South Korea has developed strongly in many fields, constantly being maintained, develop, expand and deepen with new steps, bringing benefits to the two nations.

The two countries aim to increase bilateral trade turnover to $100 billion by 2023 and $150 billion by 2030 in a balanced and sustainable direction, which increases the volume of Vietnam's exports to South Korea.

Korea is currently ranked first in foreign direct investment (FDI) with nearly $80 billion; second in Official Development Assistance (ODA), labor, and tourism; third in Commercial Cooperation

In April, Da Nang University of Foreign Languages officially put into use "South Korean Space" - a project funded by the Korean Consulate General in Da Nang and the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (Korea Foundation) to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

A vivid and convincing example of Vietnam-Korea relations is the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU) in Da Nang.
