On Monday, General Director of the General Department of Customs Nguyen Van Can said that the most of the shipments were found in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province during coordinated inspections with relevant agencies and ministries.
"Because of the difference in tax rates. If the shipments were Vietnam's aluminum, tariff could be only 15% when exporting to the US. But Chinese aluminum could face 374% tariffs when selling to the country,” Can said.
Notably, the customs department has cooperated with US Customs to verify the above cases. US sent representatives to Vietnam to coordinate the investigation, he said, adding total amount of aluminum currently in stock is worth about $4.3 billion.
Recently, customs officials in Southern province of Binh Duong seized 10 containers of bicycles. Through inspection, almost 100% of the goods were imported from abroad, but the shipment had been falsely labeled with Vietnamese origin.
Customs officials in Hai Phong city also held several containers of machinery and equipment imported from abroad, disguised as Vietnamese goods.
Besides, there were several shipments manufactured in China, such as clothes, shoes, phone components, but having Vietnamese brands. They are sold for domestic consumption.
