Vietnam reports nearly $219 mln taxes collected from activities on Google, Facebook

Tax authorities have collected over VND5 trillion ($219 million) in tax from online business activities from Facebook, Google, and Microsoft, Finance Minister Ho Duc Phuc told while answering questions from lawmakers.

A major part of the amount came from large tech firms. Facebook paid VND1,694 billion, Google has paid VND1,618 billion, while Microsoft paid VND576 billion. Taxes from cross-border trade was VND1,317.7 billion.

The ministry has also asked the General Department of Taxation to build an electronic portal on cross-border tax declaration and tax declaration for online business activities. The department will launch the portal on March 21, allowing foreign enterprises selling cross-border goods to declare and pay taxes.

The ministry is also building an application for automatic tax collection. For domestic enterprises, the General Department of Taxation is synchronizing the tax and population databases of the Ministry of Public Security. Thereby, taking the residential identification code as the tax code for online shopping is checked quickly and accurately.
