Vietnam reports a virus-infected worker at Samsung’s Bac Ninh plant, tally hits 262

The Samsung worker, the Patient numbered 262, who is a 26-year-old resident of Ha Loi village, works for Samsung’s Vietnam plant in the Northern province of Bac Ninh.
The man was reported to have close contact with a virus-infected relative, Patient 254, on March 27. He had disease symptoms with cough and fever three days after the contact and was tested positive with the virus.
The Samsung worker’s uncle, aged 51 is also a resident of Ha Loi village and a neighbor of another patient Patient 243, the first patient in the village.
Patient numbered 261, aged 60 is also a female resident in the village. She sells groceries at the Ha market. The ministry did not report where she got the virus from.
The two latest patients, who were put under treatment at the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Hanoi’s Dong Anh District, have brought the total infected cases in Ha Loi Village 10. All are now under treatment.
The government of Ha Noi city put Ha Loi village with nearly 11,000 people under lockdown since April 7 after three residents contracted the virus. This has emerged as the country’s second-biggest hotspot in the city after Bach Mai Hospital.
The Samsung Vietnam employee works at the quality control section at the plant and he had conducted self-quarantine at home since April 7, Nha Dau Tu news website cited the company's representative.
Under the guidance of Bac Ninh province's government, the company has been identifying people who had direct and indirect contacts with him, Samsung representative said.
A workshop where the patient works has been locked down and hundreds of workers have been put under quarantine, Transport newspaper cited Chairwoman of Bac Ninh province's People's Committee Nguyen Huong Giang.
Samsung contributes up to a quarter of Vietnam’s export revenue while the country is South Korea’s third-biggest export market, and the fifth-biggest source of South Korea’s imports, Reuters reported.
As of Monday morning, Vietnam has recorded 262 patients. Of them 144 have completely recovered and were discharged from hospitals.
