No new coronavirus cases has been found in Vietnam during the past 12 hours and major outbreaks in the country have been under control well, said Ministry of Health.

As of Friday morning, the country’s tally of infections unchanged at 1,007 and death toll remained at 25.

Most of the fatalities were elderly people who suffered from serious illnesses such as end-stage kidney cancer, severe pneumonia, diabetes and multi-organ failure.

Major outbreaks in the country including Da Nang, Quang Nam and Hai Duong have been basically controlled, said the Ministry of Health, while directing hospitals with equipment and capacity to test for the virus by RT-PCR to early implement testing and participate in Covid-19 epidemic prevention.

As of August 21 morning, Vietnam has registered 666 community transmitted cases, including 525 patients linked to the Da Nang outbreak that occurred in late July. The remaining 341 patients were found to have infected with the virus before they entered Vietnam.

The second wave of coronavirus outbreak in Vietnam has been spreading to 15 cities and provinces since the virus recurred in Da Nang on July 25.

Da Nang is the hardest hit locality, recording more than 300 cases, followed by Quang Nam, Hanoi, Hai Duong and Ho Chi Minh City, Voice of Vietnam cited information from health ministry.

Among the 1,007 confirmed cases since early this year, 542 cases have been discharged from hospital after having full recovery.

The remaining 465 cases are receiving treatment at medical facilities across the country with 114 cases having tested negative at least once.
