For the first time, Vietnam has witnessed a week without a newly confirmed case, keeping the nation’s patient tally at 268, Ministry of Health said.

Of the figure, 223 patients have been cleared of the virus and discharged from hospitals. Among the 45 active patients, three have tested negative once and eight twice.

The current active cases are being treated at eight hospitals across the country, including 39 at central-level hospitals, 4 at provincial hospitals, and 2 at district-level hospitals.

Noticeably, three sickest patients numbered 19, 161, and 91 are getting better, health officials said.

Starting Thursday, Hanoi and ho Chi Minh City, in a lower risk classification now, have been allowed to end a 22-day social distancing campaign that began April 1, when the number of new cases increased.

With a couple of districts still having active COVID-19 patients, Hanoi will have more restrictions in place than Ho Chi Minh City, which is allowed to open shops, street businesses, and non-essential services, but the city has decided that the suspension of taxis, ride-hailing services, tourism vehicles, and passenger buses will continue.

The COVID-19 pandemic has reached 210 countries and territories, and more than 183,800 deaths have been reported.
