Vietnam spent $1.49M importing 680,000 tons of meat and meat products, with India being the largest supplier with a value of nearly $500M, accounting for 22.27% of Vietnam's total meat imports.

According to data from the General Department of Customs, in 2022, Vietnam imported meat and meat products from 56 markets around the world, with the majority being fresh, chilled, or frozen meat of poultry, buffalo, pork, and beef, along with by-products of pigs, buffalos, and cows.

Vietnam's meat import structure primarily consists of fresh, chilled, or frozen meat of poultry, buffalo, pork, and beef, as well as by-products of pigs, buffalos, and cows. However, imports of pork and pig by-products have decreased compared to 2021, while imports of poultry, buffalo, and beef have increased.

Although Vietnam's meat exports are increasing, they account for an insignificant proportion compared to imports. In 2022, Vietnam exported 18,870 tons of meat and meat products, worth $84.6 million, with the majority of its exports going to markets such as Hong Kong, Thailand, Belgium, France, and Laos, with Hong Kong accounting for 40.72% of the total meat exports.

The meat import surplus in 2022 was over $1.35 billion, while the domestic livestock industry faced difficulties due to rising feed costs and falling output prices. In January 2023, the price of live pigs and pork in Vietnam remained stable, with slight decreases in some northern provinces and increases in some southern provinces.
