Vietnam confirms first coronavirus case in Hanoi

A 26-year-old woman who lives in Hanoi was confirmed as the 17th coronavirus patient in Vietnam. She returned Hanoi on March 2 after a trip to several countries in Europe.

The patient left Hanoi for London on February 15 to visit relatives. Three days later she traveled to Milan, Italy, VnExpress cited Chairman of Hanoi City People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung in an urgent press briefing Friday mid-night.

The traveler returned London on February 20 and five days later, she traveled to Paris, France to visit her sister. The girl discovered cough on February 29.

Her health condition further degraded on March 1, when she took flight VN0054 of Vietnam Airlines to Hanoi. She arrived in the city on March 2 while she did not have fever.

Since returning home, the patient actively isolated herself in her room, wearing mask, and avoiding contact with family members. She turned fever and cough on the same day. On March 5, the patient was admitted to Hong Ngoc General Hospital, then transferred to Kim Chung National Hospital of Tropical Diseases.

The area around the her house near Truc Bach Street was disinfected by local health authorities. Her family members, crew members flight VN0054 have also been quarantined.

As of March 6, Vietnam had put 23,228 people under quarantine, an increase of nearly 9,000 compared to a day earlier.
