Two new Covid-19 cases of community transmission were confirmed in Da Nang and nearby Quang Ngai Province Sunday evening, taking the country's active cases to 55.

The latest infections raised the national count of community transmissions in the past few days to four, the first of which ended Vietnam's 99-day streak with no community transmission.

"Patient 419" is a 17-year-old male from Quang Phu Ward, Quang Ngai Town, Quang Ngai Province.

On July 14, he visited Da Nang Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Hospital in Da Nang City to take care of his brother. He returned to Quang Ngai on July 17 on the same coach with some people from Da Nang C Hospital in Da Nang.

Da Nang C Hospital is where a 57-year-old Da Nang man visited and later became "patient 416", the first case of community transmission in the last few days.

The Quang Ngai youth started showing fever symptoms on July 20 when he came back to Da Nang Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Hospital. Last Wednesday, he took a train from Da Nang to Quang Ngai and manifested a fever, a mild cough, shortness of breath, and visited Quang Ngai C General Hospital.

By Friday, he had his samples taken by Quang Ngai Center for Disease Control which were sent to the Pasteur Institute of Nha Trang. The result showed he was positive for the virus.

He is being quarantined at Binh Son Medical Center, Dung Quat Industrial Park in Quang Ngai.

"Patient 420" is a 71-year-old female from Hoa Cuong Nam Ward, Da Nang’s Hai Chau District. She manifested fever and chest pain on July 12 and was hospitalized at Da Nang C Hospital last Wednesday. The hospital sent her samples to Da Nang Center for Disease Control and Prevention to be tested on Saturday and the result came back positive. She is being treated at the same hospital.

Da Nang, with three Covid-19 cases of community transmission, stopped receiving tourists for 14 days starting Sunday, banned gatherings of 30 plus people and urged residents to maintain social distancing.

The central city has also closed "non-essential" services like amusement parks, beauty parlors, karaoke and massage parlors and bars.

Vietnam has recorded 420 Covid-19 cases as of Sunday, of these 55 are active as 365 have recovered after treatment. No deaths have been reported.

More than 11,000 people are being quarantined. Of these, 220 people are being quarantined in hospitals, while the remaining at quarantine camps or home.
