Vietnam bans tourists from epidemic-prone regions, number of Chinese visitors surges

Vietnam Administration of Tourism stops receiving tourists from regions where coronavirus are killing people despite number of international arrivals increased significantly in the first month of 2019.

Data from General Statistics Office shows that international arrivals to Vietnam in January seen at nearly 2 million, up 33% from a year earlier since international came to the country for Lunar New Year holiday.

Of the amount, 644,700 foreign visitors came from China, an increase of nearly 73% from a year ago while number of visitors from Hong Kong decreased 76%, reaching only 1,500 arrivals.  

The administration asked local government and authorities and tourism enterprises nationwide to closely monitor the situation of the epidemic and temporarily suspend accepting or sending tourists between Vietnam and regions with the deadly epidemic.

Relevant agencies were asked to closely monitor health situation of tourists.

Also on January 28, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc signed and issued Directive No. 05 on prevention and control of acute respiratory infections caused by new strains of Corona virus.

The National Health Commission of China has said that 26 more people died from pneumonia caused by the corona virus (nCoV), bringing the total number of deaths from the disease to 106.
