On March 3rd, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in partnership with the People's Committee of Soc Trang province, held a conference on shrimp industry development in 2023.
Viet-Uc Group, a sustainable shrimp technology company, shared their closed value chain model at the conference, which includes sourcing broodstock shrimp, producing high-tech generations of shrimp seeds, farming antibiotic-free commercial shrimp, and processing shrimp for consumption.
To achieve the planned results for shrimp farming and export revenue, functional departments and localities need to strengthen inspections and checks on food safety, effectively implement regulations on farming conditions, and register key shrimp farming subjects.
Furthermore, businesses and shrimp farmers should comply with legal regulations on aquaculture and develop plans to produce under difficult conditions such as drought and saltwater intrusion.
They should also link production according to the value chain to reduce intermediaries and production costs while applying certified farming methods like VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and ASC.
By doing so, the country hopes to achieve its goal of 1 million tons of shrimp production in 2023. The export turnover is expected to reach over $4.3 billion (in 2022, it reached $4.3 billion).
