US remains Vietnam’s largest meat supplier

In January 2023, Vietnam imported meat and meat products from 29 markets, with the United States being the largest supplier.

According to the General Department of Customs, Vietnam imported 35.44 thousand tons of meat and meat products worth $74.13 million in January 2023, down 45.7% in volume and 45.4% in value compared to December 2022, and down 34% in volume and 35% in value compared to January 2022.

The country mainly imported fresh or frozen meat and edible offal of poultry, frozen or chilled edible offal of swine, buffalo, and live cattle, frozen buffalo meat, and frozen or chilled pork and beef. 

Among them, imports of poultry, pork, and beef decreased, while imports of buffalo meat increased compared to January 2022. 

Specifically, Vietnam imported 4.91 thousand tons of frozen or chilled pork in January 2023, mainly from Russia, Brazil, and Germany. 

The average import price was $2,354 /ton, down 3.5% compared to December 2022 but up 6.9% compared to January 2022.
