US corporation proposes a $13 billion offshore wind power project in Vietnam

AES Corporation wishes to deploy an offshore wind power project in Binh Thuan with a total cost of $13 billion, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

During the Vietnam - US Energy Security Dialogue on July 27 - 28, 2022 in Washington, the AES Corporation proposed to build an offshore wind power project in Binh Thuan province with a total budget of $13 billion. The expected capacity is 4,000 MW.

This is with the desire to contribute to Vietnam's carbon emission reduction plan and achieve the target committed at COP26.

In addition, the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Energy Resources (ENR) sent an official invitation to the Vietnamese delegation to attend two field trips to visit the electricity and renewable energy markets scheduled to take place at the end of 2022 in Hanoi USA.

Vietnam's electricity industry will focus on implementing green energy, and energy transformation, clean, reducing CO2 emission power sources and expected total power capacity of about 400,000 MW.

The United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) announced technical assistance to The National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) to promote the deployment of smart grid technologies. EVNNPT has selected LLC to implement this technical support.

Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade recently also asked the government to remove future coal-fired power projects with a total capacity of 14,120 MW from the national electricity development master plan.

By the end of 2021, Vietnam has had 84 wind power projects in commercial operation with a total capacity of more than 3,980 MW.

Among them, the plants with the largest capacity such as Trung Nam Wind Power are located in Ninh Thuan, with a capacity of 151.1 MW/year; Ea Nam wind power plant located in Dak Lak, with a capacity of 399.6 MW/year; Wind power farm BT1 is located in Quang Binh, with a capacity of 109.2 MW/year; Dong Hai 1 power plant is located in Tra Vinh, with a capacity of 100 MW/year.
