Oil giant Millenium’s representatives have worked with Khanh Hoa province’s leaders for developing a $15-billion gas-fired power plant on 600 hectares of land in Ninh Hoa town, Khanh Hoa newspaper reported.

The proposal received support from the provincial leaders, saying the power project was in line with the province's development plan.

The natural gas-fired power plant which includes a gas storage system to supply gas to plants in Southeast Asia, will have power generation capacity of 9,600MW.

Mr. Hoang Dinh Phi, head of Van Phong Economic Zone Authority, said that the location for the power plant was designed for developing industry associated with the seaport and petrochemical refinery, and sea tourism.

However, Phi also noted that investors must overcome difficulties if they want to invest in this area. About 1,000 households should be relocated.

Khanh Hoa leaders said the province will create favorable conditions and coordinate with investors to submit to the Government for settlement.

During the meeting with Millennium Vietnam’s leaders, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tan Tuan assigned the Management Board of Van Phong Economic Zone to carry out the procedures to report to the province.
