Ministry of Transport has decided to extend the bidding deadline for two Public-Private-partnership North-South Expressway subprojects to October 12 since they have not received any bids.

Among the five North-South Expressway sections to be built with private funding, three have received between two to three bidders each, while the remaining two have received no bidders, the ministry said in a statement.

The Dien Chau-Bai Vot and the Nha Trang-Cam Lam received two bidders each, while the Cam Lam-Vinh Hao received three bidders.

Meanwhile, the 43-kilometer National Road 45 – Nghi Son section in Thanh Hoa and the 50-km Nghi Son – Dien Chau section between the province and Nghe An have received no bidders.

Originally, eight project sections scheduled to be built under PPP mode. The government decided last year to publicly fund three of them after they failed to attract private investors.

The North-South Expressway includes 11 sub-projects with a total length of 654km running through 13 provinces and cities.

The expressway is estimated to cost a total of VND118 trillion ($5 billion).

Up to now, more than 1,000 kilometers of expressway have been built in Vietnam, while an addition of 900 kilometers are set to be completed by the end of 2021.

During the 2021-2025 period, Vietnam plans to have at least 2,000 kilometers of expressways and by 2025, the figure would be 5,000 kilometers stretching from the northern province of Lang Son to the southernmost province of Ca Mau.
