Sembcorp Utilities, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, and Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation, a member of Petrovietnam, are exploring the development of offshore wind farms in Vietnam for exporting to Singapore.

Sembcorp Utilities and Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation have obtained a Letter of Intent from Singapore's Energy Market Authority (EMA). They will collaborate to obtain conditional clearance for the Project from the EMA, according to Sembcorp's statement.

In Vietnam, PTSC, a pioneer in technical services for the oil and gas and offshore renewable energy industries, is the first and only business to be granted permission to undertake wind, marine, and geological surveys by Vietnam's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The Project encompasses roughly 200,000 hectares of marine space spread over two locations off the coast of South Vietnam. The idea for the Project is to allow for the export of power from Vietnam to Singapore.

Both milestones were revealed during Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's state visit to Hanoi, Vietnam, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Singapore-Vietnam diplomatic ties and the 10th anniversary of the two countries' strategic alliance.
