The data was announced based on the survey results of enterprises affected by the pandemic and localities’ report on labor and employment situation to the government.
Of the virus-hit workers, more than 1.2 million people working in the processing and manufacturing sectors, 1.1 million people working in the retail sector have their livelihoods affected.
"The complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the employment situation in most manufacturing and business sectors," the General Statistics Office said.
About 1 million workers lost their jobs in the first 3 months of this year, GSO said.
Unemployment has increased sharply recently. The unemployment rate of working-age laborers was reported the highest within the last 5 years. The COVID-19 pandemic has directly affected employment in most provinces and cities across the country and industries and occupations.
