According to the General Statistics Office's report on January 10th, from 2019 to 2021, employees in the enterprise sector consistently recorded positive growth rates in the fourth quarter of the year compared to the previous quarter.
However, by the fourth quarter of 2022, due to global situational uncertainties, the number of employees in enterprises recorded a decrease.
In the third quarter of 2022, there were 10,400 fewer workers working for businesses. While work in companies is on the decline, labor in families, individuals, and collectives is substantially on the rise.

In contrast, there were 17.7 million formal workers, down 97,700 from the previous quarter, increasing the proportion of informal workers by 0.4 percentage points (to 65.4% from 65.0%).
Specifically, over 296,000 workers were compelled to take leave in the fourth quarter of 2022, the majority of whom worked for foreign-invested companies (64.2%), mostly in the textile and apparel sector, and the footwear industry (72.5%), primarily in the southern provinces and cities.
