Muji, the Japanese household products and apparel chain retailer, opened its first store in Ho Chi Minh City’s downtown commercial complex - Parkson Saigontourist Plaza Shopping Center.

The MUJI Vietnam debut store, which has been installed opposite another Japanese fashion retail chain Uniqlo, has a total area of more than 2,000 square meters on the first and second floor of the shopping center.

Being inaugurated after the pop-up store opened a few months ago in the city, the first MUJI store is its largest store in Southeast Asia. This is promised to become the new go-to place for everyday essentials shopping, said Tetsuya Nagaiwa, CEO of MUJI Vietnam.

With more than 5,000 items ready to be offered to consumers, especially a wide range of clothing items and food, MUJI is capable of delivering more than just products. It’s a new living lifestyle that many people are longing for.

"Despite the Covid-19 broader impact on the global economy, we have been trying our best to sustain our business to continue to serve our customers. Vietnam has controlled pandemic well, so we decided to expand business in the country,” he said.

Vietnam is among the special market for MUJI since the country has the fast-growing economy, with young and dynamic population. The culture of Vietnamese is similar to the product orientation of MUJI, said the CEO.

By approaching from the customer's perspective, MUJI products perfectly reflect its brand concept of "a Simple, Pleasant Life". Through a careful selection of environment-friendly materials, streamlining manufacturing processes, and simplifying its packaging, MUJI creates high-quality products with “no brand”, simple, practical designs which enable customers to embrace the feeling that they are at home but still a part of nature.

The Japanese retail company that sells a wide variety of household and consumer goods was founded in 1980. The brand is distinguished by its minimalist product design, emphasis on recycling, avoidance of waste in production and packaging, and no-logo or "no-brand" policy.

As of August 2020, MUJI now operates in 31 countries and regions with 1,029 stores, including 479 stores in Japan.

In Vietnam, it is planning a second store in Hanoi. The Japanese retailer, which has it products manufactured in Vietnam through local suppliers, plans to have eight to ten stores nationwide during the upcoming years, Nagaiwa told the review.
