Japanese companies are actively seeking investment opportunities in the Mekong Delta region, with a focus on Vinh Long province, according to Ida Koji, Deputy Head of Japan External Trade Organization's (Jetro).

Previously, Japanese companies only focused on investing in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces, leading to high labor and construction costs, and limited land funds in existing industrial parks.

Hence, Japanese companies are now exploring investment opportunities in provinces in the Mekong Delta region, particularly Vinh Long province.

However, Japanese companies face difficulties with complex and time-consuming administrative procedures in the province. Therefore, Vinh Long province aims to attract more foreign investment by listening to the challenges faced by foreign companies and resolving these issues.

The province's development perspective for 2030 is to create a breakthrough in economic restructuring, develop agriculture using high technology, and strongly develop industry, particularly processing agricultural products.

In 2022, the export turnover of businesses in Vinh Long province to the Japanese market reached $60.2 million, accounting for 8% of the province's total export turnover, while import turnover reached $20.3 million, accounting for 6.5% of the province's total import turnover.

Vinh Long province currently has 267 active investment projects, with 73 FDI projects from 15 countries and territories, and Japan ranks first in total investment capital, with 11 active investment projects with a total investment capital of $213.8 million.
