Health declaration mandatory for incoming travelers from Cambodia

Incoming travelers from Cambodia shall have to fill in health declaration form since March 5, said Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long.

The move was introduced after a Japanese passenger, who transited in Ho Chi Minh City before flying home, was tested positive for the virus. 

The passenger was on a Vietnam Airlines’ flight from Siem Riep to Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday and then taking a connecting flight on the same airline to Japan.

As he landed at Japan’s Nagoya Airport, the passenger showed symptoms of high fever and was taken to local hospital.

The Ho Chi Minh City Disease Control Center has also requested the city's airport to disinfect all planes everyday to limit spread of the virus. Meanwhile the city's Department of Health expressed concern about travellers immigrating in the city from a third country. 

On Tuesday, the arriving day of the Japanese national, nearly 500 Chinese immigrated in the city from third country. They were not subject to quarantine according to regulations. 

The city's Department of Health received the report of the International Health Quarantine Center that on March 3, several flights from Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia carrying large number of Chinese passengers.

Flights from Cambodia had 391 Chinse passengers, from Thailand, 72 passengers, from Singapore, 13 passengers, from Malaysia, 4 passengers and from other countries, 11 Chinese passengers.

Earlier, authorities also requested mandatory heath declaration for travelers from China and South Korea and from COVID-19 affected areas of Iran and Italy.

The epidemic is spreading quickly across the world, with the outbreaks growing fast in South Korea, Italy and Iran.

At least 80,404 people contracted the virus, including 3,013 fatalities around the world.

In Vietnam, the situation has been controlled well but competent agencies are preparing for a possible scenario of a large-scaled outbreak with many infection cases.
