Fruit and vegetable exports earned $600 million in May, increasing the five-month total to $1.97 billion, up 39% from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Since early this year, Vietnamese fruit and vegetable exports have grown 39%, and China's imports have increased significantly.

China bought 58.7% of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables in the first four months of this year, worth $804.6 million, up 30% year-over-year. Vietnamese produce imports rose 72% in the Netherlands.

According to Vietnam Fruit & Vegetables Association Secretary General Dang Phuc Nguyen, this is the first year after nearly three years of COVID-19 that China has aggressively boosted its purchases of Vietnamese agricultural goods such as dragon fruit, durian, mango, and jackfruit.

If Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) are met, fruit and vegetable exports in the second half will be promising. Fruit and vegetable exports will top $4 billion this year.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam is leading an agro-fisheries trade trip to Guangxi and Yunnan.

Both parties suggested expanding smart border control pilot trials.

Nam advised Nanning customs to establish a point of contact with the MARD to reduce texting.

Guangxi has nine border crossings with four Vietnamese provinces, but only six allow fruit and vegetable imports and exports.

Thus, Nam suggested that Nanning customs expand fruit and vegetable trading to all nine border crossings to reduce strain on conventional checks, congestion, and expenses for both sides.
