Coronavirus may wipe more than $1 billion off Vietnam’s aviation sector

Domestic air carriers are expected to suffer over $1 billion loss in revenue due to flight suspension, a move to fight against coronavirus that has been killing thousands lives around the world.
The aviation market has been declining sharply due to recent flight suspensions to and from the virus-hit regions, Thanh Nien newspaper cited Dinh Viet Thang, director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
For the Korean market, air carriers have cut 47% of flights to 309 flights per week, in which Vietnamese airlines cut 41% of flights. Number of passengers fell sharply to 8,000 to 12,000 daily from an average of 26,000.
Beside losing all Chinese tourists during the suspension period, Vietnam Airlines’ passengers on other international routes to Europe, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia also fell sharply.
