China's Xiamen Port Group eyes logistics investment in Vung Ang

China’s Xiamen Port Group plans to open a container route linking Vung Ang port in central province of Ha Tinh and Xiamen port in Fujian province.

The group also wants to invest in a seaport in Vung Ang, news website run by Ha Tinh’s Party Committee, cited information between meeting between the provincial leaders and leaders of the group on Sunday.

Value of the investment has not been disclosed.  

Xiamen is a coastal city overlooking the Taiwan Strait in Fujian Province (China). For centuries, the city has served as an important trading port for China. The port is among the top 7 ports in China and the 16th largest container port in the world.

“After surveying infrastructure conditions at Vung Ang port, we found that the port has a lot of potential with the connection with international seaports as well as the road network to Laos, Thailand,” said Chen Zhiping, Chairman of Xiamen Port Group.

Lao Government is conducting a feasibility study on the Laos-Vietnam railway project. This route will start from Thakhaek and run to the Laos - Vietnam border to connect with Vung Ang port.
