Asia remains Vietnam's top market as export accelerates

Asia was Vietnam's greatest export market in the first half, buying items worth $239.45 billion, accounting for 64.5 percent of total export earnings of the nation, reported the General Department of Customs.

In June, the economy's overall trade turnover reached $ 65.07 billion, a 2.4 percent increase over $1.53 billion in May. Trade between the country and the Americas reached $79.72 billion, up 20%, followed by trade with Europe (up 9.7%%) and Oceania (up 8%). Vietnam has a $743 million trade surplus from January to June.

Exports in the FDI sector reached a record high of $255.83 billion, a rise of 16 percent over the same time the previous year, or $35.26 billion.

The entire export turnover for the examined period was $186.03 billion, a jump of 17.3 percent and $27.46 billion, respectively. A 15.5 percent increase, or $24.86 billion, was recorded in the number of imports, which was estimated at $185.29 billion.

In the first half, Vietnam imported 4.81 billion tons of various types of gasoline for $5 billion, an increase of 17.6% in quantity and 128.6% in value over the same time in 2013. In the first half of the year, Vietnam imported 63,731 cars, which is a 21.4 percent decrease from the same period last year.
