Another British national confirmed contracting coronavirus, total rises to 33

A British national, aged 58, became the 33rd COVID-19 patient in Vietnam, bringing the total number of patients in the country to 33, the Ministry of Health said in a report.

The man was said to have traveled on the same plane with Hanoi’s first coronavirus bearer, named Nguyen Hong Nhung, who returned to Vietnam from the United Kingdom on March 2.

The latest patient is one of nine British nationals confirmed having the virus after being in the same plane with Nhung.

Earlier, Vietnamese health officials said that a 24-year old woman, who was confirmed the 32nd coronavirus patient in Vietnam. She had returned Vietnam on a private plane after attending a fashion event in Europe with Nhung.

As of  3pm on Tuesday, the number of COVID-19 patients on the flight VN0054 increased to 15, including 9 British nationals, one from Ireland, and one from Mexico.

Of the total patients confirmed so far in Vietnam, 16 had been cleared of the virus and exited hospitals.
