Vietnam sticks with GDP growth target of 6.5% in 2021

The Prime Minister emphasized that up to this point, the Government has not changed the set targets, while encouraged localities, relevant agencies to be more proactive, flexible, creative, and harmonize for pandemic prevention and socio-economic development.
Earlier the Government set 2021 economic growth target at 6.5%.
At the meeting, the Ministry of Planning and Investment developed two scenarios to realize the growth target assigned by the National Assembly and the Government in the remaining 6 months of the year.
According to scenario 1, in order to achieve the GDP growth of 6%, the economy needs to achieve a growth rate of 6.2% in the third quarter, and 6.5% GDP growth in the final quarter.
In order to achieve a 6.5% growth as targeted, the economy’s growth rate should be 7% in the third quarter and 7.5% in the fourth quarter.
According to a report of the ministry, in the first 6 months of the year, the macroeconomic situation was stable, economic growth was positive despite the impact of the epidemic. GDP growth rate in the first 6 months of 2021 reached 5.64%, much higher than the same period in 2020.
