Vietnam reports $10bln trade surplus in Jan.–August 15

Vietnam recorded a trade surplus of $10 billion between January to August 15 this year as trade has bounced back, according to data released by the Vietnam Customs Office.

As of mid-August, total export revenue reached $160.2 billion, up 1.8%, or $3 billion from a year earlier. Import revenue dropped $4 billion to $150.2 billion. 

In the first 15 days of August, Vietnam’s export revenue was estimated at nearly $12.7 billion and import reach $10.8 billion. 

The biggest hard currency earners included telephones and spare parts with $2.58 billion; computers, electronic products, and spare parts with $1.9 billion; garments and textiles with $1.36 billion; machines, equipment, and spare parts with $1.11 billion; and footwear with $652 million. 

On the other hand, Vietnam chiefly imported computers, electronic products and spare parts with $2.9 billion; machines, equipment, and spare parts with $1.58 billion; phones and spare parts with $759 million; and fabrics with $447 million.
