Vietnam recorded a trade surplus of $6.56 billion with the Americas in January 2023, with exports reaching $8.21 billion and imports at $1.65 billion, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The US remains the top trading partner for Vietnam in the region, with an export turnover of $7.2 billion and an import turnover of $860 million. Meanwhile, Canada came in second place with an export turnover of $360 million and an import value of $45 million.

In 2022, the import-export turnover between Vietnam and markets in the Americas saw double-digit growth, totaling $153.9 billion, a 10.7% increase from 2021.

Major markets in the Americas, including the US, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Chile, and Argentina, also recorded stable growth in trade with Vietnam last year.

Vietnam's strengths in the US market include processed and manufactured products, agricultural products, forest products, and garments, with a significant portion of exports being industrial products such as machinery and equipment, computers and electronics, textiles and garments, and shoes.

Vietnam's coffee products also found success in the US market, with the country exporting nearly 129,400 tons of coffee, valued at $305.4 million, in 2022. Vietnam is currently the third largest source of coffee in the US.
