Seaport cargo volume nearly doubles in seven years

Statistics of the Viet Nam Maritime Administration showed that during the 2015-2022 period, the sea cargo throughput in Viet Nam witnessed annual growth of 8.4 percent.
In the first quarter of this year, the nation's seaport throughput exceeded 165 million tons, including 53 million tons of container cargo, reaching 20 percent of the year's target.
Viet Nam has three seaports in the top 50 seaports with the largest cargo throughput in the world, noted the latest update to the list of 100 seaports by Lloyd Maritime Company (UK).
They are Sai Gon port (ranking 22nd), Hai Phong port (ranking 28th), and Cai Mep port (ranking 32nd).
According to the Master Plan for Viet Nam Seaport System Development in 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, by 2030, the seaport system can handle goods from 1,140 to 1,423 million tons (of which container cargo is counted for 38-47 million TEUs).
